Bowie woke up to Eden gently poking him. âI think that weâre here,â she squeaked. âYou fell asleep too.â
âShit,â he grumbled. âIâm sorry. I didnât think that I was tired enough to sleep.â
âI guess that we were both tired,â she said. The car had stopped, and he looked out the window, recognizing his sister and Rockâs house. He had only been to her place once, but before Rock married Darcy, he had been to his house for meetings involving syndicate business.
âYeah, weâre here,â he grumbled. He always thought that the Greed house looked like something out of a horror movie. He liked his sisterâs touches around the place now. He noted that there were flowers planted around the front of the house and that she had even put a pretty wreath on the front door. That was Darcy though, always bringing sunshine into a dark, gloomy situation.
âTheir house is great,â Eden said.
âYou know, I donât even know where you live,â Bowie admitted. He didnât know much about Eden outside of her job and he wanted that to change.
âI donât know where you live or anything, so donât beat yourself up. I actually live about ten minutes from here, in a little studio apartment. Itâs not much, but itâs mine,â she said.
âI live about thirty minutes from here,â he said. âI moved out of my fatherâs house about two years ago. I couldnât live and work with the man. He drove me crazy when I did that, so I moved out.â
âI bet you live in a place a lot like this,â she said, looking his sisterâs house over.
âNo, not really. I didnât want anything too big, that Iâd have to take care of. Itâs a four-bedroom home, and itâs nice, but nothing like this. My fatherâs house is a lot like this place, and Iâd rather steer clear of anything like it.â He hated how empty and cold his fatherâs house felt after his mother died and Darcy moved out. She was young when she left home and he was still in high school, so even if he wanted to leave with her, Bowie was stuck with living with his dad. He vowed to never live in a place that made him feel so much sadness ever again. His house was his happy place. It was his safe zone, even if he could use help decorating it. His house had the essentials and felt like home to him. And right now, all he wanted to do was show it to Eden.
âHow about after this meeting, you let me take you back to my place?â he asked.
âBowie, weâve just spent over a week together. You have to be getting sick of me by now,â she insisted. He didnât think that heâd ever get sick of Edenâs companyâeven after a hundred weeks together.
âIs that your way of telling me that youâve had enough of me?â he asked.
âNot at all, I just worry that Iâm overstaying my welcome,â Eden said.
âYou canât overstay your welcome if Iâm inviting you.
